From our Incoming Rotary District 5340 Governor Luis Carranza... The Governor's dinner evening will be a beautiful celebration of all we’ve accomplished together during this past year under the incredible leadership of District Governor Dianne Crawford — including the presentation of well-deserved individual and club awards recognizing the heart, passion, and dedication of our members. But it’s also the start of a new chapter... We will honor and swear in our 2025-2026 Club Presidents, our Assistant Governors, and with great humility and pride, I will be sworn in as your District Governor for 2025-2026. I would be incredibly honored to have YOU there with me on this unforgettable night — not just as fellow Rotarians, but as family. We’ll gather, we’ll laugh, we’ll cheer, we’ll dance... because this is Rotary — and this is our moment to celebrate together. |

Today we welcome Dr. Divya Kakaiya, a fellow Rotarian (Club 33) and a Board Member of San Diego Crimestoppers.
Her topic: Safer and Peaceful Communities - Crimestoppers and Students Speaking Out.
Both programs are anonymous tip lines where citizens are able to report crimes to two full time law enforcement officers (one with SDPD and one with Sheriff's Dept.)
These organizations have taken 16 guns off of local High School campuses. "Those are 16 mass shootings we have prevented in San Diego schools,” said Dr. Kakaiya. "The students are able to report 100% anonymously so we do not worry about them fearing that they have snitched!”

We welcome Rita Hanscom, world class Master's Track & Field Champion, speaking on "How to be an athlete in the last half of your life."
Here's a look at Rita's incredible, inspirational story:
Rita Hanscom is an attorney, wife, mother, and a remarkable example of resilience in athletics. A graduate of the University of Hawai‘i and Boston College Law School, she has built a distinguished career in public service, working in the California Attorney General’s Office, where she investigates health-care fraud.
Around age 47, after reading about Masters track and field, she resolved to learn pole vaulting—and that decision began a second chapter of extraordinary achievement.
Rita has competed in Masters events both nationally and around the world, earning accolades, winning medals and breaking records. In addition to five gold medals, she earned a world record in the heptathlon at the 2009 World Masters Championships in Lahti, Finland, and that year was honored as the Best Masters Female Athlete in the World. In 2025, at the USA Track & Field Masters Indoor Championships, competing in the women’s 70–74 pentathlon, Rita tallied 3,682 points, setting a new American age-division record. She also cleared 1.23 m in the high jump, ran 12.71 s in the 60m hurdles, and helped her 4×200 relay team break another American record. Rita has overcome two Achilles tendon injuries with trademark determination—staying active through recovery and proving that movement fuels healing. Her philosophy: stay active to heal and to thrive. As she says, “One of the greatest gifts you can give your children is to remain healthy and independent.”

NAVY VETERAN RICK CLARK TO SHARE HIS RECENT "HONOR FLIGHT" TO WASHINGTON, DC
In honor of Memorial Day - coming up on November 11 - our in-person meeting on November 7 will feature our very own Rick Clark, a Navy Veteran who served his country as a member of the Seabees during the Vietnam War.
Rick will be fresh off a weekend trip to Washington D.C. with Honor Flight San Diego - a non-profit organization that transports veterans - free of charge - to our nation's capital to visit the memorials built for their sacrifice and to honor them for their dedication.
On September 26, Rick will fly with 90-100 other veterans of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, with all expenses paid by Honor Flight San Diego. [For more information on this amazing program: https://www.honorflightsandiego.org/2024/02/05/honor-flight-to-washington-d-c-sept-30-to-oct-2/]
In addition to his distinguished career in the Navy, Rick has dedicated decades of his life to La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary, including helping to organize dozens of hands-on service projects, producing professional-quality videos and graphics, providing architectural drawings for numerous buildings in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, and instigating/organizing Operation Flags for Vets at Miramar National Cemetery.
