High-Resolution Imaging in Ophthalmology

Imaging of the eye is limited by the relative poor optics of the human eye to viewing small bloodvessels at best. While biology has cellular level image resolution, ophthalmology has long suffered from the poor numerical aperture of the human eye. With the help of adaptive optics, a technology initially developed for President Reagan's Star Wars Initiative and subsequently used in astronomy, we are able to overcome the optical resolution limits and achieve cellular level imaging in humans.
